Trio of WHS tennis players compete at Districts

ATHENS — The Washington Lady Blue Lion tennis team sent three players to the District tournament last week at Ohio University in Athens.

Megan Downing went as a singles player and Bethany Wilt and Sydnie Hall represented Washington as a doubles team.

Downing lost in the opening round to Lea Wright of Wheelersburg, 2-6, 2-6.

Wright won her next match to advance to the finals where she lost to Sylvia Gray of Unioto. Both Gray and Wright qualified to the State tournament.

Hall and Wilt lost in the opening round to Clouse and Garrett of Logan Elm, 0-6, 0-6.

Downing was named the Player of the Year in the Frontier Athletic Conference.

Wilt and Hall, along with Jennifer Richards, were named First Team, All-FAC.

Those players will be among those honored at the FAC’s fall sports banquet Nov. 15.

Washington shared a co-championship with Chillicothe, both teams finishing conference play at 7-1.
