Blue Lion, Panther golf open 2018 season

The Washington Blue Lions and Miami Trace Panthers boys golf teams took part in the 2018 season-opening Adam Sharp Memorial, hosted by McClain at Buckeye Hills Country Club Tuesday, Aug. 7.

The Blue Lions were fourth out of 11 teams with a score of 199.

The Panthers placed seventh with a team score of 203.

West Union’s ‘A’ team won with a 171.

Jackson was second at 188 and McClain was third with a 191.

West Union’s B’ team placed in a tie for fourth with a 199.

Hillsboro was sixth with a 201.

Fairfield was eighth at 207, tied with North Adams; Whiteoak was 10th at 222 and Vinton County was 11th with a 225.

For the Blue Lions, Tyler Rood shot a 48; Ty Rose and Brock Morris each shot a score of 50; Brice Cartwright shot a 51 and Sam Shaffer had a 62.

For Miami Trace, Hayden Walters led with a score of 40.

Tyler Eggleton had a 46, Trenton Crawford, 57 and Justin Marshall and Dalton Minshall each recorded scores of 60.

McClain’s Trevor Newkirk was medalist with a 35 (1-under par).

Washington and Miami Trace were scheduled to play the first Frontier Athletic Conference match Wednesday at Hillsboro.

Both teams will compete at Jackson in another FAC match Tuesday, Aug. 14.
