Knisley shoots 85 at 1st day of State golf tournament

SUNBURY — Washington High School senior Max Knisley competed in the first day of the Division II State golf tournament at NorthStar Golf Club Friday.

This is the second time Knisley has been to the State golf tournament.

He went to State with the Blue Lion team as a sophomore in 2013.

Friday, Knisley shot a score of 85, with a 44 on the front nine and a 41 on the back nine.

The 12 individual golfers at the State in Division II shot scores ranging from 76 (Chris Willard of Bishop Hartley and Gage Bosson of Coshocton) to 94 by Hunter Lowder of Navarre Fairless.

In the Division II team competition, Canton Central Catholic leads with a 302.

Bexley is second with a 306 and Dayton Oakwood is third with a 321.

Unioto sits in ninth place (out of 12 teams) with a score of 345.

Peyton Cooper, a senior for Unioto, shot an 81. Senior Scott Freeman shot an 83; senior Bane Adkins, 88; junior Cole Karr, 93 and freshman Jacob Calvin, 93.

The Division II State golf tournament continues Saturday with temperatures excepted to top out around 50 degrees with a 50 percent chance of rain.
