Lady Tigers softball beats Lady Lions

GREENFIELD — The Washington Lady Blue Lion varsity softball team concluded play in the first season of the Frontier Athletic Conference with a game at Mitchell Park on Daryle Unger Field against the McClain Lady Tigers Monday evening.

McClain won this game, 19-5 in five innings.

Brooklyn Devenport pitched 3.2 innings, taking the loss for Washington. She allowed eight earned runs with four strikeouts and three walks.

Corynn Chrisman pitched one-third of an inning for Washington.

Burchett was the winning pitcher for the Tigers. She allowed nine hits and five runs (all earned) with one strikeout and three walks.

After a scoreless first inning, Washington scored twice in the top of the second.

Lilly Cowman hit a single and scored on a double by Maddison Osborn.

Annie Semler singled, scoring Osborn.

McClain tied the game with two in the bottom of the second.

Washington regained the lead with a run in the top of the third.

Devenport walked and Chrisman walked.

Maddy Jenkins grounded out, advancing the runners.

Devenport was out at home trying to score on a ground ball by Cowman.

Osborn followed with a single that scored Chrisman.

The lead was short-lived, however, as the Lady Tigers scored five in the bottom of the third.

The Lady Lions scored one in the top of the fourth on a single by Danika Marcum.

Marcum moved to second on a wild pitch and went to third on a passed ball.

Marcum scored on a ground out by Chrisman.

McClain scored 12 runs in the fourth, collecting nine hits, including home runs by Stevenson and P. Smith.

Washington scored the final run of the game in the top of the fifth on a double by Cowman, a single by Osborn and a single by Semler.

Washington finishes the FAC at 4-6.

Also in the FAC Monday, Jackson completed an undefeated FAC championship season with a 6-4 win at Miami Trace.

Washington is at Vinton County Tuesday, at Adena Thursday and at Blanchester Friday.
