Lady Lions take one of two with Goshen

GOSHEN — The Washington Lady Blue Lion varsity softball team traveled to Goshen Saturday, April 28 for a doubleheader against the Warriors.

Goshen won the first game, 5-3, but Washington took the second game, 9-4.

In the first game, Brooklyn Devenport started and took the loss for Washington. She pitched six innings with six hits and five runs (three earned) with eight strikeouts and three walks.

A. Bauer was the winning pitcher for Goshen. She pitched seven innings with six hits and three runs (two earned) with eight strikeouts and two walks.

Washington was down, 5-0, when they came to bat in the top of the sixth inning.

Devenport began the inning with a walk and with one out recorded, Maddy Jenkins hit a double to left that scored Devenport.

Maddison Osborn singled to score Jenkins.

Brooklyn Foose singled, moving Osborn to third. From there, Osborn scored on an error.

Jenkins led Washington at the plate with two hits.

In the second game Saturday, Washington scored four in the first, two in the second, two in the fourth and one in the fifth for a 9-4 win over Goshen.

The Warriors scored three in the first and one in the fifth.

Brooklyn Devenport was the winning pitcher for Washington. She pitched seven innings with nine hits and four runs (all earned). She struck out one and did not walk a batter.

S. Shaw started and took the loss for Goshen. She pitched one inning with six hits and six runs (three earned) with two strikeouts and no walks.

A. Bauer pitched six innings with six hits and three runs (all earned) with seven strikeouts and three walks.

Washington had 12 hits and played error-free in the second game.

Destanie Leach led Washington, going 3 for 4 with two runs, one rbi and one double.

Danika Marcum was 2 for 3 with two runs and one double.

Maddy Jenkins went 2 for 3 for Washington.

Washington put four runs on the board in the top of the first.

With one away, Corynn Chrisman singled and Jenkins followed with a single that moved Chrisman to third.

Lilly Cowman reached on an error that allowed Chrisman to score.

Cowman advanced to second on an error and Maddison Osborn hit a triple, scoring Jenkins and Cowman.

Annie Semler had a two-out single that scored Osborn.

Washington led 4-3 going to the top of the second.

Leach led off with a single and Marcum hit a double.

Devenport singled, scoring Leach.

Marcum scored on an error.

In the top of the fourth for Washington, Leach hit a double to start the inning.

Marcum singled with Leach going to third.

Marcum stole second and Leach scored on a single by Jenkins.

Marcum scored on a ground out to give Washington an 8-3 lead.

Washington completed its scoring for the day with a run in the fifth.

Brooklyn Foose led off with a single and stole second.

Annie Semler walked and Leach singled, scoring Foose.

Washington is at Vinton County Tuesday and at Adena Thursday.
