GREENFIELD — The Miami Trace Panthers visited McClain High School in Greenfield Friday, both teams looking for their first win of the season.

It was Homecoming at McClain Friday. The crowd was not nearly what one would expect from a Miami Trace-McClain game, due to the cold, windy, rainy weather.

The Tigers showed their fighting spirit, but, in the end, Miami Trace prevailed with their own Panther spirit to win the game, 32-13.

“The kids played hard,” McClain head coach Jeremy Andrews said. “Our execution was better, but, still not good enough.

“Miami Trace is not a bad football team,” Andrews said. “They came out and played a pretty good second half.”

McClain got on the board first with an 88-yard touchdown run by Alex Hollar.

Camden Yates had the extra-point kick made it 7-0 with 5:32 to play in the first quarter.

McClain had the ball near midfield, but a fumble was recovered by the Panthers.

Early in the second quarter, Miami Trace tied the game, 7-7 on a 28-yard touchdown run by Larry Jackson and the extra-point by Blake Pittser.

Miami Trace moved the ball down the field and threatened to score. They completed a pass, the play, however, was stopped just short of the end zone, leaving the game tied, 7-7 at the half.

In the third quarter, there was a 19-yard run for a touchdown by Miami Trace’s Drake Litteral. Pittser’s kick made it 14-7.

On McClain’s first play of their next possession, quarterback Tristan Pitzer broke an 80-yard run for a touchdown. The point-after attempt was no good, leaving the Panthers with a 14-13 lead.

Later in the third, Miami Trace took a 20-13 lead with a two-yard touchdown run by Jackson, capping a 9-play drive covering 57 yards.

The extra-point kick was blocked by Pitzer.

In the fourth quarter, with 9:10 to play in the game, Miami Trace quarterback Austin Lovett scored on an 11-yard run.

The kick was no good, leaving the Panthers with a 26-13 lead.

The final score of the game was a 36-yard touchdown run by Lovett. The extra-point kick was no good.

For McClain, Tristan Pitzer had 105 yard rushing and Alex Hollar had 213 yards rushing on 21 carries.

Drake Litteral led the Panthers with 126 yards rushing.

Miami Trace will travel to East Clinton next week to take on the Astros.

McClain will play at Chillicothe next week.

Elsewhere around the SCOL Friday, Wilmington (5-1, 3-0) defeated East Clinton (2-4, 0-3, 35-0 and Chillicothe (4-2, 3-0) beat Hillsboro, 14-6. The Indians are now 1-5 overall, 0-3 in the SCOL.
