Washington’s Taylor Smith stands in the No. 2 position on the podium at the State Middle School Track and Field Championships. Smith’s throw of 39’ 6 1/2” landed her in second place in the shot put event.

Taylor Smith and Raven Haithcock of Washington Middle School track both competed at the The Middle School Track and Field Championships.

Both had outstanding middle school seasons, winning Junior High League individual events at the Middle School League Invitational.

Haithcock competed in the 100-meter hurdles and finished ninth out of 20 athletes.

Taylor Smith also competed in the meet in the shot put.

Last year at the state meet, Smith finished in third place. This year she finished second with a throw of 39’ 6 1/2”.

Smith missed first place by a only a few inches. Both athletes will be freshmen next year at Washington High School.

“Both girls did a great job of representing the Washington C.H. Track and Field Program and it was an outstanding effort by both,” Washington head varsity coach Louis Reid said. “I look forward to them contributing next season.”
