The Miami Trace girls varsity soccer team made a big breakthrough on a very warm, muggy Thursday when they hosted the Lady Tigers of McClain in an SCOL match.

Miami Trace won 6-4.

Becca Ratliff scored Miami Trace’s first goal 24 seconds into the game.

Tori Morrison scored at 31:09, and Hanna Reisinger scored at 25:40 with an assist from Lauren Truex in the first half. In the second half Truex scored three goals for a hat trick, two of those were off an assist by Daria Thomas.

Taylor Barrett had seven saves in goal while Khenadi Grubb had two saves in goal.

There was a lengthy lightning delay at the beginning of the second half. Before the delay Miami Trace led, 4-1; after play resumed, Miami Trace settled back into the game, but still managed to hang on until the end.

“I am very proud of the girls effort tonight on the field,” Miami Trace head coach Caitlin Zook said. “They have been working extremely hard this season to improve and it paid off tonight with their first win of the season. I’m looking forward to even more progress from this group of girls the rest of the season.”

Miami Trace will be back in action at home Saturday against Southeastern at 1 p.m.
