The Division II District cross country races were held at the University of Rio Grande on a beautiful Saturday, Oct. 21.

Washington High School senior Maddy Garrison placed sixth in a field of 122 runners, to qualify to the Regional meet this coming Saturday in Pickerington.

Garrison ran a time of 19:46.84.

Fairfield Union had the first and second place runners, as well as the fourth and eighth-place finishers to win the District title. They had a total of 33 placement points.

Athens came in second with 86 placement points and are also considered a District champion.

Vinton County (third with 101 points) and Fairland (fourth with 130 points) are considered District runners-up.

Washington placed 10th as a team out of 16 teams with 284 placement points.

“It was a really good day for our team,” Washington head coach Ryan Day said. “We had, I believe, six kids set a new personal best time. That’s difficult to do there, because that’s not a fast course. Having to go up (a rather steep hill) twice is not easy.”

Heather Lecrone of Fairfield Union was the District champion in a time of 19:00.15.

For the team results, Sheridan was fifth with 156 points, Warren was sixth with 212 points, Waverly was seventh with 239 points and Jackson was eighth with 267 points.

Gallia Academy was ninth with 278 points and Washington was 10th with 284 points.

Circleville also had 284 points, but Washington’s sixth-place runner finished head of Circleville’s sixth-place runner to win the tie-breaker.

River Valley was 12th with 291 points, followed by Logan Elm (13th with 295), Alexander was 14th with 325, Meigs was 15th with 372 and New Lexington was 16th with 434 points.

Also for Washington, Cloe Copas was 41st in 22:17.34.

Catelyn Colter was 72nd in 25:02.04; Alexa Harris was 78th in 25:50.33; Megan Rohrer was 87th in 26:32.22; Haley Copas was 91st in 26:56.75 and Abby Tackage was 99th in 28:07.96.
