The Washington Lady Blue Lion varsity volleyball team improved to 4-0 in the SCOL with a 3-1 win at home over Hillsboro Thursday evening.

Washington came from behind after dropping the first game to win the next three to claim the match.

Scores of the games were: 18-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-21.

“We had a slow start tonight,” Washington head coach Ashley DeAtley said. “We played a little timid. Hillsboro came out and played well. They are a good team. They dig up a lot of things and cover the floor well.

“We answered back with hitting,” DeAtley said. “Our serve-receive was a little off at the beginning, but, we made some adjustments. We kept (freshman) Hannah Haithcock in the back row to serve-receive. Then we started getting some momentum going on our side.

“Haley Maxie (a junior) came off the bench and helped us out,” DeAtley said. “Making the necessary adjustments that we needed to to pick up the momentum on our side really alleviated some of the pressure on our girls.”

Statisically for Washington: Hannah Haithcock led the hitting with 8 kills, Jaycie McRoberts had 6 kills, Megan Mullins had 4 kills and Susanna Eckstein had 3 kills.

Haley Maxie led servers with 3 aces, followed by Maria Wilson with 2, and Megan Mullins with 2.

Faith Kobel and Hannah Haithcock each had 3 solo blocks.

Brooklyn Wilson had 12 digs, followed by Hannah Haithcock with 10, and Haley Maxie with 9.

Washington (4-3 overall) is at Unioto for a tournament Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. Teams taking part will also include Chillicothe and South Webster.

The Lady Lions return to SCOL play Tuesday at home against Wilmington with the j-v match at 5 p.m.
