London outlasts Blue Lions, 51-47

The Washington Blue Lions fought a hard battle Friday night during the Homecoming game versus the London Red Raiders, but were defeated in an offensive outburst, 51-47.

“Our kids fought,” Blue Lion head coach Chuck Williamson said. “We said going in we knew London was a good football team. We knew it was going to be hard-fought, a heavyweight fight. They punched us in the mouth early, we responded, but we just made too many mistakes, and the boys know that.

“They are fixable mistakes and we are going to get back to practice, fix those mistakes and get ready for Delaware Hayes (away on Sept. 15). They are a division one or two team, we are going to come out and play. We feel we can play with anybody, it was just that we made too many mistakes tonight and against a good team you can’t make that many mistakes, that is what got us.”

The total offense was very even with Washington accumulating 587 total yards to 581 yards for London, combining for an incredible 1,186 total yards of offense.

Washington had 321 yards rushing on 38 carries and 266 yards passing.

London had a whopping 530 yards rushing on 52 carries. The Red Raiders were 2 of 5 passing for 51 yards.

K.J. Price was huge for London with 426 yards rushing and five touchdowns on 26 carries.

He had touchdown runs of 50, 21, 75, 4 and 32 yards.

For the Blue Lions, quarterback Dillon Steward had 200 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 19 attempts.

Jacob Rice had 121 yards rushing and one touchdown on 19 carries.

Eli Ruth had three pass receptions for Washington for 100 yards and two touchdowns (72 yards and 5 yards).

Caleb Rice had six receptions for 76 yards.

Richie Burns had one reception for a 15-yard touchdown.

London led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Both teams scored 20 points in the second quarter to give London a 27-20 halftime lead.

The third quarter was relatively quiet with Washington scoring six points to three for London, making it a 30-26 ball game in favor of the Red Raiders.
