Cavs beat Panthers, 7-2

The Miami Trace Panthers hosted Chillicothe Tuesday in the SCOL soccer opener for both schools.

The Cavaliers won the match, 7-2.

Chillicothe led at the half, 3-1.

Miami Trace junior Blake Pittser scored in the first half from about 45 yards out on a free kick. The goal came with 1:26 to play in the first half.

Senior Edik Liff scored for Miami Trace with just over 35 minutes to play in the second half.

The Panthers trailed 4-1 when Liff scored. The assist was by Pittser.

Miami Trace had eight shots on goal to 32 for the Cavaliers.

In goal for the Panthers, junior Timothy Kinzler had 14 saves in the first half.

Sophomore Matt Fender had eight saves for Miami Trace in the second half.

“We made some big strides tonight,” Miami Trace head coach Josh Thoroman said. “Our team has grown up a little bit since the first game.”

Miami Trace (0-2, 0-1 SCOL) is back in action Tuesday at home against Wilmington at 5 p.m.
