The Washington Blue Lion varsity baseball team played another game to help keep in tune prior to the Sectional tournament when they hosted the Warriors of Adena High School Monday, May 8.

The Blue Lions rallied for two runs in the 10th, capped by a walk-off single by senior Griffin Shaw to post a 12-11 win.

“We started off very sloppy tonight,” Washington head coach Tyler Rhodus said. “All of our pitchers were on a pitch count tonight so that they can be ready for the Sectional final on Thursday.

“I thought all our pitchers threw really well,” Rhodus said. “Jarett threw well but lacked defensive support. Defensively, we were very sloppy the first five innings. We failed to make the routine play, hit cut offs, or be in the right spots.

“In the bottom of the fifth we got it going offensively and from there on we played good all-around baseball. We finished the game playing pretty well which is great.”

Adena scored one in the first, three in the second and one in the third to take a 5-0 lead.

Washington responded with three in the bottom of the third.

The Warriors scored one in the fourth and two in the fifth to go in front, 8-3.

The Blue Lions scored three in the sixth to pull to within two at 8-6.

Adena scored one in the seventh and Washington tied the game with three in the seventh, 9-9.

Both teams scored one run in the eighth.

After a scoreless ninth, Adena took an 11-10 lead in the top of the 10th.

In the bottom of the 10th for the Blue Lions, Eli Ruth hit a single with one out.

Ruth stole second and two outs, Brian Wilson hit a double to score Ruth, tying the game.

Shaw followed with a walk-off single to score Wilson.

Shaw went 4-6 in the game for the Blue Lions.

Nick Barrett went 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBI and Conner Chrisman went 2 for 5.
