Panther baseball tops Eagles, 11-1

The Miami Trace Panthers varsity baseball team traveled up SR 38 for a game against the Madison Plains Golden Eagles Tuesday.

The Panthers got back on the winning side, 11-1 in six innings.

Skyler McDonald was the winning pitcher for the Panthers.

He pitched six innings with two hits, no walks, five strikeouts and one unearned run.

Jarrett Vallery took the loss for the Eagles. He pitched 1.1 innings with one strikeout, three walks, five hits and seven runs.

Ross Buscemi pitched 4.2 innings with four runs, four hits and three walks.

“It was a good way to bounce back after a tough loss the night before,” Miami Trace head coach Rob Smith said. “The kids played hard. Now we get ready for Senior Night (Wednesday) against Chillicothe.”

The Panthers scored all the runs they would need with five in the top of the first.

Jacob Batson walked and stole second.

Josh Morton hit a single, scoring Batson.

Brady Wallace followed with a single and Mitchell Creamer walked to load the bases.

McDonald hit a double to make it 4-0.

Later in the inning, McDonald stole home for a 5-0 tally.

Madison Plains got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first.

Jaycee Raines reached on an error and scored on a fielder’s choice.

The Panthers posted three more in the second inning.

Morton was hit by a pitch and stole second.

Wallace walked and Creamer singled to load the bases.

Heath Cockerill followed with a triple to make it 8-1.

The scoring subsided until the top of the fifth.

Logan Robinson walked, stole second and scored on a single by Jacob Batson.

The Panthers were able to achieve a 10-run advantage with two in the sixth.

Trenton Harris walked and stole second.

McDonald reached on an error that allowed Harris to score.

Robinson reached on an error and McDonald scored on a passed ball.

The Panthers host Chillicothe today at 5 p.m. They will honor their eight seniors prior to the game.
