Lady Lions fall in opener

The Washington Lady Blue Lion softball team opened the 2017 season Monday with a home game against the Ross Southeastern Panthers.

Southeastern won the game, 16-4 in five innings.

Southeastern hit Washington with 11 runs in the top of the first inning.

The Lady Panthers made it 12-0 with a run in the top of the third.

Washington scored one run in the third and one in the fourth.

Southeastern scored four in the top of the fifth, while the Lady Lions responded with two runs.

Emma Skeens was the winning pitcher for Southeastern. She pitched five innings with five hits and four runs (three earned) with four walks and four strikeouts.

Trinity Ragland started and suffered the loss. She allowed seven runs (all earned) with three walks.

Meghan Tucker came on in relief and pitched five innings with 11 hits, nine runs (five earned) three walks and one strikeout.

Washington had five hits in the game, including a two-run home run by Maddy Jenkins in the fifth inning.

Washington opens the final-ever season of the South Central Ohio League Wednesday at 5 p.m. hosting defending champion Clinton-Massie.
