MT 7th, 8th grade girls open 2016-17 basketball season

The Miami Trace seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams began the 2016-17 season at home against Greenfield on Monday, Dec. 5.

The Miami Trace seventh grade girls started off the first quarter by leading 6-0.

In the second quarter they added on six more points to end the half 12-0. In the third quarter the Panthers added on another six and Greenfield finally scored three points. The Lady Panthers took the win, 24-5.

Mallory Pavey led the panthers with 8 points. Libby Aleshire had 6 points, Makayla Barnes had 4 points. Loreli King, Sidney Payton and Jarya Hassel each chipped in two points each.

In eighth grade action, Greenfield took a 6-3 lead in the first, but the Lady Panthers outscored the Tigers in the second to take the half time lead of 10-7.

The third quarter was a defensive battle and the Panthers stayed on top, 16-14.

Cold shooting proved to be a problem for the Panthers in the fourth quarter and the Tigers took the lead and went on to win, 26-20.

Gracee Stewart led the Panthers with eight points and three assists. Olivia Fliehman, Keiyrra Helton and Aubrey Wood each had four points.

Keiyrra Helton led in rebounding with 10. Aubrey Wood pulled down eight and Ella Coe had five.

On Thursday, Dec. 8, the Panthers traveled to Chillicothe.

The seventh grade panthers took a quick 9-2 lead.

At half time, Miami Trace was on top, 17-2.

They continued to add to their lead in the third going up 25-6.

The Cavilers added eight in the fourth to the Panthers’ five, but, with a big lead already established, the Panthers pulled out the win 30-14 to move to 2-0 on the season.

Lorelei King led the Panthers with 12 points. Emma Pitstick and Libby Aleshire each had six points. Makayla Barnes had four and Sidney Payton chipped in two.

In eighth grade action, the Cavaliers took a 12-6 lead over the Panthers and continued their lead at half 16-8. In the third quarter, the Cavaliers extended their lead 20-15. The cold shooting continued for the Panthers as they fell, 27-17.

Gracee Stewart led the Panthers with six points. Keiyra Helton and Ella Coe each had four points. Aubrey Wood had three points.

Keiyrra Helton led in rebounding with seven and Aubrey Wood pulled down five rebounds.

The Miami Trace seventh and eighth grade teams will be traveling to Hillsboro on Thursday, Dec. 15 for their next league match up. The seventh grade games are played at 5 p.m. with the eighth grade to follow.
