DUBLIN — The Miami Trace Panthers stepped away from SCOL play to travel to Dublin Jerome Saturday evening to play the Division I Celtics.

Though they trailed the entire game, the Panthers acquitted themselves very well against the central Ohio giant.

The Celtics won the game, 66-59.

Statistically, Miami Trace made 21 of 53 shots for 39 percent to 21 of 45 for Jerome for 46 percent.

The Panthers made 8 of 23 threes for 34 percent to 6 of 17 for the Celtics for 35 percent.

At the foul line, the Panthers were 9 of 15 for 60 percent to 18 of 28 for Jerome for 64 percent.

Jerome had four players in double figures, led by Zach Watson with 21 points.

DeAndre Pettiford led the Panthers with 12 points and Cameron Carter had 10 points. Tyrae Pettiford scored nine points (three threes) and led the Panthers with four assists.

Darby Tyree scored eight points and led the Panthers with eight rebounds.

Keondrick Bryant was next in rebounding for the Panthers with seven.

“I thought we had a chance to win,” Miami Trace head coach Rob Pittser said. “We were a little different because Blake wasn’t there. That changes us a little bit.”

Blake Pittser was taking part in a soccer tournament in North Carolina.

“They had an 8-0 run, I believe it was, to start the game,” Pittser said. “Then, they had another scoring spurt to start the third quarter.

“Because of the speed of play, their transition from one end to the other was faster and we gave up some layups,” Pittser said. “Really, that was the difference in the game.

“We represented pretty well,” Pittser said. “We did trail the whole game. We had to hang around and hang around.”

Jerome led 20-15 at the end of the first quarter.

At halftime, the Panthers were down, 30-22.

The Celtics increased their lead to 14 points at the end of the third quarter.

Miami Trace outscored Jerome 24-17 in the fourth quarter for the final tally, 66-59.

Miami Trace, now 3-1 overall (2-0 SCOL) returns to league action Tuesday night against Hillsboro with the freshman game at 4:45 p.m. The Panthers will play at Chillicothe Friday, again with the action starting with the freshman game at 4:45 p.m.
