It was Senior Night at Washington High School Thursday, as well as rivalry night as the opponent was Miami Trace.

The first time the teams played in varsity volleyball this season, Miami Trace won, 3-2.

In that match, the Panthers won the first two sets, Washington won the next two and Miami Trace won the tiebreaker.

Thursday, Miami Trace won the first two sets and Washington won the third set and was leading in the fourth.

However, Miami Trace rallied from behind to win the fourth set and the match, 3-1.

Scores of the sets were: 25-10, 25-15, 18-25 and 25-23.

Miami Trace finishes the final SCOL season in second place with a record of 12-2.

Washington places third in the SCOL with a record of 10-4.

Chillicothe won the SCOL title for the second year in a row.

“I know they had one of their kids injured and not able to go tonight,” Miami Trace head coach Doug Mace said. “That did hurt them a little bit.

“I’m really proud of our kids,” Mace said. “Court House looked like they were going to do the same thing they did at our place (send the match to a fifth set after trailing 2-0).

“We were prepared to go five,” Mace said. “We knew it was going to be a tough battle. I’m really proud of my kids tonight. They hung in there and played with heart the whole time. As a coach, that’s what you want to see. Not one kid really stood out. It was a team effort.”

For Miami Trace, Samantha Ritenour had 20 kills and Erica Marshall had 15 kills.

“That’s a big workload,” Mace said.

Kennedy Campbell had five kills for Miami Trace.

“They had the momentum coming in,” Washington head coach Ashley DeAtley said. “Our girls had a lot of emotions going on with Senior Night. We weren’t ready to play when we stepped on the court tonight. I give kudos to Miami Trace, they were fired up. That’s what we were lacking, the fire like we saw from our girls on Tuesday night.”

Washington honored their seven seniors Thursday. The seniors are: Susanna Eckstein, Madalyn Wayne, Cayleigh Matson, Haley Maxie, Jazzy Robinette, Miranda Landis and Victoria Jones.

Washington also recognized Miami Trace’s seniors, Samantha Ritenour, Kylie Reisinger and Clare Sollars.

“This is an awesome group of seniors,” DeAtley said. “This group is very special to me. This is one of my first groups I had when I coached the seventh grade. They have been very close to me. They have a very deep bond with each other.”

Statistically for Washington: Delaney Greer, 8 kills; Hannah Haithcock, 5 kills, 4 ace serves, 4 digs, 4 solo blocks; Victoria Jones, 4 kills, 3 ace serves, 7 digs, 5 solo blocks; Haley Maxie, 4 digs; Madalyn Wayne, 3 ace serves; Halli Wall, 4 digs.

Miami Trace (now 15-6 on the season) will host Piketon Monday, starting with the j-v match at 5 p.m.

The Division II tournament draw will be announced Sunday.

Miami Trace won the j-v match, 2-1 and Miami Trace also won the seventh and eighth grade matches against Washington Thursday.
