Connecting employers with job seekers

Pursuing your passion and finding a fulfilling career is an important aspect of the American Dream.

During my time in Congress, one of my top priorities has been to support policies that foster job growth and opportunity in our communities. That means rolling back burdensome and costly regulations and having a competitive tax policy so businesses of all sizes can be successful and create jobs.

I recently hosted a Business Roundtable in Pickaway County and a Workforce Development Roundtable in Madison County. While regulations and taxes were high on the list of concerns for these employers from Ohio’s 15th Congressional District, one issue that keeps coming up as I travel the district is the need for more skilled workers. Often businesses have open positions, but they struggle to find qualified candidates to fill them. As your Congressman, I want to find effective ways to connect employers that have jobs to fill to qualified job seekers.

That’s why I make it a priority to host a Job Fair each year. The 2016 Job Fair will on Tuesday, April 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ohio State 4-H Center, which is located next to the Schottenstein Center at 2201 Fred Taylor Drive in Columbus. Admission and parking are free.

This year, we have lined up 80 employers with over 5,000 available jobs to participate. In addition, the State of Ohio – Ohio Means Jobs team will be holding workshops throughout the day to assist job seekers with important skills such as resume writing and interviewing. We will also have resources and special workshops for veterans and senior citizens who are job hunting thanks to the participation of organizations like Employment for Seniors and Hero 2 Hired. For more information about the Job Fair, including the schedule of events and a list of participating employers please go to my website at www.stivers.house.gov or call my Hilliard District Office at (614) 771-4968.

This Job Fair is just one way I can help connect people with the many available jobs in our district. If you or someone you know is looking for a job, I hope you’ll stop by.

As always, I invite you contact me about this and any other issue facing the federal government. You can call my office in Washington, D.C. at (202) 225-2015, Hilliard at (614) 771-4968, Lancaster at (740) 654-2654, or Wilmington at (937) 283-7049.

Steve Stivers is a member of Congress from Ohio’s 15th Congressional District.
