Is truth subjective?

If you were to testify in a court of law you would first put your hand on the bible and say: “I swear to tell the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help me God.” If truth were subjective then there could be many different statements made that would be considered truth. Anyone who thinks that would work for proving someone guilty or innocent, must think again. Truth can not be subjective. There must be a whole truth and nothing but the truth that we can count on. Our lives depend on it.

Six thousand years ago, as recorded in Genesis 42:16, Pharaoh sent for a man so that his words could be tested to see whether there is any truth in him. From the time of ancient history men’s future and very existence has been shaped by spoken words which are the truth, or words which have been proven to be a lie. Our destiny is subject to the truth, the truth is not subject to our destiny. It is futile to change the meaning of words in an attempt to circumvent the truth. Truth will give us a quality of life that we can not experience without it.

When Moses had come to a place that he could no longer govern the children of Israel due to his lack of time, Jethro his father-in-law, gave him the answer.

Exodus 18:21; “Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.”

If truth is based on or influenced by personal feelings, tastes, or opinions, then it is subjective. However, it has been proven since time began that personal feelings, tastes, and opinions change from day to day. Therefore truth can not be subjective. There is an absolute truth that never changes and it is available to everyone because it has been recorded in a book called the bible.

These are the everyday issues we consider at the Gathering Place every Wednesday evening at 7 and Sunday morning at 9:30 and 10:30. We have youth group at 6 every Sunday evening. Come and join us.
