Recalculating our direction

By Pastor John Pfeifer - Getting Ahead

Getting directions to a destination has never been easier than it is today. It was not that long ago that we used printed maps to find our way to the place we wanted to go. When the GPS technology was made available, you needed to purchase a device to pick it up and pay for a subscription to use it. Now we just use the phone we have in our pocket to find our way. I remember getting off track when using those first GPS receivers and it saying over and over again; recalculating. It was working to get me back on track.

There are many times on our personal journey through life that we need to recalculate our direction. We can be heading the wrong way and if we continue on that path, we can end up lost. That happens with many people today. We are fed a constant diet of opinions and agendas. Someone trying to convince us that their way is the right way for our life. Many of these things are life altering and can easily get us lost if we blindly follow them. As a child I was reminded not to jump off a bridge just because someone else did. Why is it that we can be lead entirely in the wrong direction? The answer to that question is that we lack knowledge and are wide open to what we hear over and over again. We have to know the very source of knowledge to discern it.

The Lord was speaking to Moses of Bezalel the son of Uri in Exodus 31:3 and said: “I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.”

So the Spirit of God is the source of these things and they are given to us, in these times, through the redemption of Jesus’ sacrifice of His own blood. Ephesians 1:7-8; In Him, (Jesus), we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence.

John the baptist was the forerunner who announced that Jesus, the Messiah, was coming in the flesh.

He preached: Mark 1:15; “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

The Greek word, (Greek was the language the bible was first written in), for repent was to turn and go in a different direction. Aim your life in the right direction and you can live in truth, power, and provision.

These are the things that we discuss at the Gathering Place every Wednesday evening at 7 and Sunday morning at 9:30 and 10:30. Youth group meets Sunday evening at 6. Come and join in the journey.
