‘Rust in the water’

By Pastor John Pfeifer - Getting Ahead

Over a year ago we put a booster pump on our water system to increase the pressure to our fixtures. When we installed the pump we started to get some rust in our water that would show up in our baptistry. We had no idea where it was coming from so we assumed that it was due to the water department flushing the hydrants.

After a year of it not getting any better, we started to check other sources that were in the system. The water supply in the building is all run in plastic. It does not take a genius to figure out that plastic does not produce rust. Then after over a year it came to us that this problem started after we installed the booster pump. And yes, you guessed it, the pump and the hot water tanks are the only metal in the system. The added pressure was shaking any rust loose that may have built up in the hot water tanks. The amazing thing is that no one had ever thought about that possibility.

Problems in our life can be just like that. Things are not going well and we think we have done everything to correct those things that are troubling us. We then start to blame everything and everyone for what we are going through. Some people will go so far as to blame God. Usually the last possibility we consider is that our actions might be the reason for our troubles.

James 1:13-14 – Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.

Our actions have consequences and we must realize that if we want to live a better life. The bible gives us the right way to live and Jesus gave his life that we could have this knowledge. Why do we want to try everything else before we go to the source of truth? God created us and we need to believe that the creator knows us better than we know ourselves. Think about it! Who really wants to keep drinking rusty water?

These are the things we look into at the Gathering Place every Wednesday evening at 7 and Sunday morning at 9:30 and 10:30. Come and learn with us.
