‘The power in words’

0

I have been made aware, through my children and grandchildren, that we are all born with the tendency to tell a lie. It is not something that we are taught, we just seem to be born with it. I realize there are varying degrees of this tendency, but all children seem to have it.

When I was a child my parents worked hard to teach me to tell the truth. If I did not tell the truth, there were severe consequences. My parents would punish me and I would have to admit that I had lied. The little white lie was also something that I tried to use to my advantage. That did not work either and once again I was punished and made to tell the truth. As I got a little older, I thought that I could just slant a story to my benefit. It was then that I learned that was also leaving a false impression which constituted another lie. It was not the whole truth and nothing but the truth and anything short of that is indeed a lie.

Why are these false statements such a big deal? That is something that can take a lifetime to understand. It is easy to catch a little child in a lie but not so easy to catch grown adults in one. You can even believe a lie and repeat it thinking you are telling the truth.

II Thessalonians 2 says we can believe a lie and be damned because we don’t believe the truth. So we must know the truth and believe it.

In John 8:32 Jesus said; “And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

Since our very existence is affected by what we think and say, it is very important that we understand the truth. I have good news for you. Jesus has made it possible that we can indeed know what is true and what is false.

John 16:13; ”When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak of His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”

God’s Spirit will let us know what is true and all we have to do is allow him into our life so He can communicate it to us.

These are the things that we look into at the Gathering Place every Wednesday evening at 7 and Sunday morning at 9:30 and 10:30. Come and join in. It can change your life for good.
