Polly Dean and Mary Stolsenberg, members of the Presbyterian Women of the First Presbyterian Church of Washington Court House, were honored to award three women on Sunday, Sept. 1 during the morning worship service.
Carol Halliday and Arlene Thompson received honorary life memberships. This program was established early last century in the Presbyterian Church to honor faithful service to the women’s organization and to the church recognizing women for their distinguished service in the church and community. Carol and Arlene were given certificates and pins which symbolize caring, supportive hands, growth of personal and corporate response to Jesus Christ as we nurture our faith, our work for peace in our lives and throughout the world, and to share the gospel.
Maggie Glass was presented with the Women of Faith award. It is given by the Presbyterian Women of Presbytery of Scioto Valley Team. A letter from the local congregation describes the outstanding work and faith of the candidate and how she has made a difference. We named many ways she has made a difference such as teaching church school, Bible school, choir leader and member, and has led Relay for Life in our church for many years just to name a few. Maggie was awarded a certificate and a plaque.
Previous recipients of The Women of Faith award are: 1997 Bonnie Arnold, 2005 Mary Stolsenberg, 2006 Becky Thompson, 2010 Marcia Baumann, 2014 Sue Maddux, 2019 Florence Heironimus and Frances Wilson. (The Presbyterial will only allow one person a year from each church, but because Florence and Frances were twins they allowed it last year.)
