One morning while taking a shower, the plastic center cap from the faucet handle broke and fell to the floor. I reached down and picked up the broken piece of plastic and noticed that it was not all there. The plastic was clear and even though I had picked up the largest piece, there had to be smaller pieces on the shower floor that I could not see.

My first thought was that if I could not see the other pieces, they would just wash down the drain and I would not have to worry about them. About that time I stepped on a small piece of sharp plastic. I could have stayed with my original plan, of allowing the problem to take care of itself and be washed away, or I could start feeling around on the shower floor and pick up all of those small sharp pieces.

I thought of the consequences of leaving those sharp pierces of plastic under my feet, not to mention that my wife would be getting in the shower and cutting her foot, so with the consequences considered I took the time to find all of the broken pieces and dispose of them in the trash can.

Every so often there are situations and circumstance in our lives that are broken. Many times we pay attention to the obvious problems that they create but do not see the subsequent fall out that can happen later. We give our attention only to the thing that we see at that moment and allow the smaller shattered things to go unnoticed until we are wounded by them later.
