Getting Ahead: ‘It’s right around the corner’

0

As winter ends and spring arrives, I am ready for the sunshine and warm weather. I have found that I can be impatient when the temperature drops below freezing after spring has arrived. It is disappointing when the groundhog says that spring is going to be here early and the snow is still flying.

Winter used to have more appeal to me than it now does. When I was younger, I could hardly wait to see the snow fly. It meant that we could build snow forts, snow men, and go sledding down the snow-covered hills that surrounded us in southern Ohio. Now it just makes me cold, wet and inconvenienced.

I have changed and the things that once made me happy are now the things that I wish would go away. The snow and cold weather have not changed, just my reaction to them. When July gets here, there are those that will be suffering in the heart of summer. Others will be enjoying the heat and going to the beach to lie out in the summer sun. It goes to prove that you can not please everyone at the same time or in the same situation. The weather will change from season to season, which is right around the corner. If you like the summer heat, it is coming. If you enjoy the winter snow, it will be back.

Could the problem be in me? Is my impatience for what I enjoy making it seem as though the sun will never shine? Will my wishes make it happen quicker? It is possible to be content in all things?

These and other life questions will be addressed Sunday morning as “The Gathering Place Family” meets in the Washington Junior High School Library for Bible Study at 9:30 and in the gymnasium at 10 a.m. for our Pre-Service Connection where we enjoy coffee, juice and donuts. Our Worship Service and Children’s Church then begins at 10:30. Come at 7 p.m. and be part of our Wednesday night Bible Study and Children’s Ministry on the third floor above Trends at 120 W. Court St. in Washington Court House.
