Grace United Methodist Women hold meeting

The Grace United Methodist Women (UMW) met on Dec. 2 at 11:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the church for a Christmas luncheon prepared by the UMW officers. Those attending enjoyed a delicious home prepared lasagna, leafy green salad, rolls, and dessert.

President Karen Bernard called the business meeting to order after lunch. Juanita Hughes presented a Christmas devotion from Luke and John on the “Meaning of Christmas.” The secretary’s report was read by Sandy Flach and approved. Correspondence received by the UMW during the past month was read and passed to all present to read. The treasurer’s report was presented by Brenda Warner and approved.

Committee reports:

Cooking Teams: Pat Parsons’s cooking team will be doing the cooking for Retired Teachers on Dec. 3. Robin Dolphin and Mary Fish are working on Lenten Luncheon menus. The Lenten Luncheon committee will meet in January. Cooking team members will be contacted by each cooking team leader after the committee meeting. The Lenten Luncheons will begin on Feb. 11, 2016 and continue each week for five weeks. The Luncheons will be on Thursday at 12 p.m. in the Grace UMC Fellowship Hall on Feb. 11, Feb. 18, Feb. 25, March 3, March 10, and March 17.

All Shawnee Valley UMW district reports are completed. Thank you to Wanda Hughes, Linda Highfield, Brenda Warner, and Sandy Flach.

The UMW Executive Committee met during the morning before the Christmas luncheon. A brief summary from that meeting was presented to the UMW members present. A schedule of 2016 meetings was presented. The first 2016 meeting will be on Feb. 3, 2016 at the Elm Street Commission on Aging at 11:30 a.m. for lunch with the business meeting to follow.

In 2016 there will be four UMW business meetings: on Feb. 3, June 8, Sept. 7, and Nov. 2. There will be four social UMW meetings to be organized by a new chairman (this will be a new position in Grace UMW) with possible dates of March 2, April 6, July 6, Oct. 5, and/or Dec. 7. UMW is also looking for a new chairman to oversee the third Sunday of each month’s breakfast team.

Robin Dolphin made a motion for UMW to purchase a diaper changing table to be installed in one of the Fellowship Hall bathrooms. Jenny Stemple seconded the motion which was approved by all. Robin will be in charge of purchasing the table.

Jeannie Rosendahl presented the UMW with beautiful Christmas music on the piano at the end of the meeting. Christmas carols were enjoyed by all at the end of her music presentation.
