Getting Ahead: The Right Words

0

Did you ever hear the saying, “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me?”

Our parents taught us that saying as children to help us handle the hurt we experienced when other kids would taunt and make fun of us. If we were confronted we would try to ignore those hurtful remarks by repeating that saying over and over again. Usually we would say it out loud to the people we were having trouble with.

The reality was that their teasing and making fun of us really did hurt and we were battling the hurtful words they were speaking with words that might help us endure the pain. Another saying we were taught is, “A word once spoken can never be recalled.”

That saying is the absolute truth. We have learned the reality of this saying through personal experience, so how important are the words we speak? Could it be possible that we could change our situations and maybe even our life by speaking the right words? Can negative words bring on negative circumstances and positive words bring about positive?

These and other life questions will be addressed Sunday morning as “The Gathering Place Family” meets in the Washington High School Gymnasium at 10 a.m. for our pre-service connection where we enjoy coffee, juice and donuts.

Our worship service and children’s church then begins at 10:30. Come at 7 p.m. and be part of our Wednesday night Bible study and children’s ministry on the third floor above Trends at 120 West Court Street.
