As a boy, as most boys do, I fell in love with automobiles.

The first car I had was a little compact that my parents gave me for my high school graduation. I was going to go to college and it was a very practical car for me at that time. However, within a year, I had decided I needed a sports car that looked cool and would run fast.

The idea of such a car absorbed my mind. I looked on every car lot I could get to and as you can imagine, I found one. I had not established any credit so I went to my dad and asked him to co-sign for a loan so I could have the car of my dreams. He refused knowing the folly of such a car at that time in my life but after going to him time and time again, he gave in against his better judgment.

In the next two years, I had so many traffic violations that I was made to take my driver’s test over, my insurance premium went through the roof, and I wrecked that car three times. The third time was so bad that it had to be totaled.

My expectation of the fulfillment that sports car would bring to my life was as high as it could be. But that expectation was shattered when the inevitable happened.

Could it be that our greatest expectations will be blessings in our life, or could they be curses? Just because it looks like a wonderful thing today, will it turn out that way tomorrow? Is there a way to determine the outcome of our expectations?

These and other life questions will be addressed Sunday morning as “The Gathering Place Family” meets in the Washington High School Gymnasium at 10 a.m. for our Pre-Service Connection where we enjoy coffee, juice and donuts. Our Worship Service and Children’s Church then begins at 10:30. Come at 7 p.m. and be part of our Wednesday night Bible Study and Children’s Ministry on the third floor above Trends at 120 West Court Street.
