The Grace United Methodist Women (UMW) met in the Fellowship hall of Grace United Methodist Church in Washington Court House on Nov. 16 at 11:30 a.m. for a meal served by the UMW officers.

During the meal, all were entertained by two delightful youngsters, Payton Black and Dylan Ely, performing piano music.

President Karen Bernard called the business meeting together after the meal. The Mission Moment was given by Vicki Cardenas, a message from the UMW Response Magazine called “Hope & Opportunity in Kenya.” Operation Hope helps women living with HIV and AIDS in Kenya to live thriving lives. Linda Highfield then gave each one attending a birthday card to send to missionaries around the world with specific addresses for those birthdays in November. Norma Wilson was honored for her many years of service to UMW and received a pin and a certificate of appreciation.

Wanda Hughes conducted the memorial service, honoring those women who have served our UMW but who have passed away during the last year. Those women honored were: Marian Baughn, Evelyna Hidy, Jane Foster, Doris Weber, Virginia Kelly, and Anna Lawrence.

The secretary’s report from September was read and approved. All correspondence since the September meeting was passed around to those at the meeting to read. The treasurer’s report for November was presented and approved. Treasurer, Brenda Warner, presented the budget for 2017 which was also approved. Monetary Christmas projects were presented. Pat Gall and Vicki Cardenas asked that UMW give $50 to SOCKS (Spirit of Christmas for Kids) that St. Andrews Episcopal Church in WCH sponsors. This was approved by all.

Also approved was a motion by Peggy Louis and Linda Highfield to give $100 for the teenage/toy room at The Well, and Vicki Cardenas and Sandy Flach to give $100 to The Warehouse.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Cooking Teams: Retired teachers will be served by UMW on Dec. 1 by Pat Parson’s team. Lenten Lunch committee will meet in January and cooking team members will be contacted after that meeting.

Pat Gall asked that all UMW reading lists be turned into her as soon as possible as she has to send her report to district by the end of January 2017.

President Karen reported that all district reports have been completed and submitted. She also thanked those who helped with the Habitat meal.

NEW BUSINESS:

President Karen gave a brief summary of the executive meeting that had occurred at 10:30 a.m. before the luncheon. She also gave the dates for UMW meetings for 2017. They are Feb. 1 at COA at 11:30 a.m.; June 7 at the church at 6:30 p.m. for a carry-in with Deborah Circle as hostess; Sept. 6 at COA at 11:30 a.m.; Nov. 15 at the church at 11:30 a.m. She informed the members that the Lenten Luncheons will be served in our fellowship hall beginning March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, and April 6. Easter is April 16 this coming year. UMW will be serving the Retired Teachers with lunch in February, April, June, October and December.

President Karen is seeking chairs to oversee the UMW Breakfast Teams that help with Sunday church breakfasts. There are two teams of workers that serve on the third Sunday of alternating months.

Brenda Warner and Sandy Flach will make available the Cat’s Meow replicas of all three churches that have served our congregation before and after the 10 a.m. Sunday service, beginning Nov. 27 through Dec. 18. Ann Blake, Pat Gall, Vicki Cardenas, and Carolyn Reinwald will also be helping with this project. These would make wonderful Christmas gifts for many people.

Deborah, Faith, and Rebecca Circle reports were given.

The next meeting will be Feb. 1, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at the COA.
