Ginna Climer took Supreme Champion with her Brown Swiss Dairy Cow at Friday morning’s Fayette County Junior Fair Dairy Show.

Climer, also the 2015 Fayette County Small Animal Queen, is a member of the NH-4H Club and has been showing for eight years.

“I just want to thank all my family and friends, and all the royalty for being here today,” Climer said after winning Supreme Champion. “I’d like to thank our judge for coming out and judging our show and giving her opinion on everyone. I’m really looking forward to seeing how both of my cows progress and seeing how we do in the state fair and the nationals this year.”

Climer also took Reserve Supreme Champion with her Milking Shorthorn Cow.

There were four classes that showed during the Dairy Show on Friday morning: Holstein, Jersey, Brown Swiss, and Milking Shorthorn.

In the Holstein class, Jack Anders won Junior Champion, Emily Daniels won Reserve Junior Champion, and Virginia Schappacher won Senior Champion, with Schappacher winning Grand Champion. In the Jersey class, Michael Schappacher won Junior Champion, Kyle Bennett won Reserve Junior Champion, and Kyle Bennett won Senior Champion, with Schappacher winning Grand Champion with his heifer.

In the Brown Swiss class, Climer won both Junior and Senior Champion, and also won Grand Champion. In the Milking Shorthorn class, Cheyenne Cartee won Junior Champion, Climer won Reserve Junior Champion, and Climer won Senior Champion, with Climer winning Grand Champion.

Jack Anders was named Overall Showman during the morning’s Showmanship show.

Anders, a member of the Above and Beyond 4-H Club, is competing in his first year of shows. “I just want to say thank you for a great first year,” Anders said. “I’m really happy with how everything has gone and I’m excited to keep going.”

The judge for Friday’s Dairy Show was Judy Wolford of Ashville. Wolford was raised on a dairy farm in southwest Pickaway County and owns and operates a multi-breed dairy farm in northern Pickaway County with her husband. Wolford has a degree in dairy science from The Ohio State University and a J.D. from Capital University.

Wolford has judged several fairs in Ohio and Pennsylvania, bred and owned the 2010 All-American Brown Swiss Fall Yearling, had the Reserve Grand Champion Red and White at the Ohio State Fair, and is the Pickaway County Prosecuting Attorney.

“When you’re judging dairy cows, it’s almost like a beauty pageant,” Wolford said. “You want a cow that’s tall, that’s not carrying a lot of excess weight, that’s clean and sharp throughout. You want her to have a nice udder, so you want her to be high and wide in the rear. It’s kind of just like what you think about in a beauty pageant.”
