WFD to hold open house

The Washington Fire Department will be holding an open house at the fire house Oct. 9 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The event will be held at the Washington Court House Fire House at 225 E. Market St., with fire safety education and activities for all ages.

“It is our hope to have tower rides for the public, and for a donation to MDA, people will be permitted to take a ride up in the bucket of our tower truck,” Washington Fire Department Lt. Tim Downing said. “We also plan to have a water ball competition for the fire departments. Bloomingburg Fire Department is currently the reigning champion. They have informed me that they will be here to defend their title. An auto extrication demonstration is currently in the works for 2 p.m. that day, but we are still finalizing plans for that. There will be activities such as the Hazard House and the BullEx Fire Extinguisher trainer and goody bags will be handed out to the children while supplies last.”

This event has been held for a few years now and has grown over time. Organizers are encouraging the community to join them for this event and to bring the whole family.

The Washington Fire Department works hard for the community in protecting life and property, and recently added a new truck to the fleet in these efforts. For more information about the event, or to contact the fire department, call (740) 636-2362.
