In only his second year of showing hogs, Grayson Keller, 13, won the grand champion trophy on Wednesday at the Fayette County Junior Fair Market Hog Show.

Grayson, a member of the 4-H Fun Bunch club, still seemed stunned immediately after the market hog show when asked for his reaction. He said he was excited and that his hard work paid off. He is the son of Lisa and Ben R. Keller.

The reserve champion trophy went to Brooklyne Baldwin, 18, a member of the Jeff All-Arounders 4-H club. She’s been showing hogs officially for 10 years, but started taking an interest at the age of 5.

“This is the best I’ve ever done,” Brooklyne said. “I’m very excited, but it also doesn’t seem real at the same time.”

After Grayson and Brooklyne, the remainder of the top five finishers were: Konner May in third place, Aubrey McCoy in fourth place, and Caleb Penwell in fifth place. Caleb Penwell was also named the top overall showman at Tuesday’s hog showmanship show.

The top five from Wednesday’s market hog show came from a total of 36 classes that competed for the top prize.

The judge this year, Miles Toenyes, said he was very impressed by what he saw on Wednesday. “Not only is the tremendous quality of the hogs remarkable, but the kids are so very impressive,” he said. “There was a lot of competition in this show. This county fair is one of the toughest I’ve ever judged.”
