Southern State Community College Theatre will hold auditions for the Nov. 4-6 production of Jane Wagner’s “The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe.”

Open to community members and students, auditions will be held 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on Southern State Community College’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.

“The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe” introduces us to Trudy, who takes us—along with her two alien companions—on a discovery trip to find out what it means to be human as she imparts her own impressions on life. Trudy introduces us to many people, ranging from: Agnus Angst, a 15-year-old punk performance artist; Agnus’ grandparents Lud and Marie; Chrissy, a recently unemployed workout enthusiast; Lily, an actress currently performing a one-woman show; and many others. Lily Tomlin’s one-woman tour-de-force performance won the New York Drama Desk Award and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award as well as a Tony for Best Actress.

Those interested in auditioning should prepare and memorize a comedic one- to two-minute monologue. Those interested on working in available crew positions will be asked to complete an interview the night of auditions. The cast will be comprised entirely of women, but men and women are being sought for crew. If you’re interested in auditioning, but unavailable to attend the audition date, please contact Director Rainee Angles ([email protected]) to schedule an alternate audition date prior to Aug. 26.
