The Fayette County Family YMCA will host its 15th anniversary event on Sat. Oct. 15 from 12-5 p.m. The YMCA is located at 100 Civic Drive in Washington C.H.
Doug Saunders has been the CEO of the Fayette County Family YMCA for 15 years and with the YMCA for a total of 38 years. He recently spoke with the Record-Herald about the various activities at the event.
From 10 a.m.-noon, the festivities will start with a Pickleball Tournament and a Pump and Run.
From noon-4:30 p.m., there will be an open swim for all ages to participate in.
Simultaneously, from noon- 5 p.m., there will be face painting, food trucks, cornhole, hula hoops, a bounce house, a game room, and music.
From 12:30-1:30 p.m., there will be a time capsule and ceremony.
A ventriloquist will also be giving a performance from 1-2 p.m.
From 1:30-2:30 p.m. there will be line dancing along with a movie and popcorn in a different area.
To end the day, from 3:30-5:00 p.m., batting cages will be available to the public.

Along with all of these activities to keep the whole family busy, a special membership offer will be available as well. If you purchase an annual membership from Oct. 1-5, 2022, you will get three months completely free.
Saunders further explained the perks that come along with a YMCA membership.
“You will receive access to all YMCA facilities, nationwide membership which allows you access to most YMCAs in the United States, 24 hour access to the wellness center and indoor track for ages 18 and over, priority registration and member rates for YMCA programs like swim lessons, free youth sports with family or single parent family membership, free group exercise classes, yoga, functional fitness, group cycling, cardio, kickboxing etc., free child watch for ages 1 month- 7 years, free water exercise classes, free wellness center orientation, and free Smart Start Virtuagym Fitness and Nutrition Program,” he said.
“The YMCA strengthens the foundation of the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility,” noted Saunders. “We offer programs for all ages and provide opportunities for people to achieve their goals, build relationships, and feel a sense of belonging. The YMCA has programs for the whole family.”
Saunders then went a little more in-depth into what programs the Fayette County Family YMCA has to offer to the community.
For the youth, the YMCA has its state licenses before and after school and summer day camp programs for kids who have completed kindergarten up through sixth grade.
The facility starts early sports programs for children ages 3-5 years old. It offers basketball, soccer, floor hockey, t-ball, and sports of all sorts, which is where the kids learn and play a different sport every week.
For kindergarten through sixth grade, the YMCA offers karate, basketball, flag football, soccer, futsal (indoor soccer), floor hockey, and just started its own youth volleyball league.
The YMCA offers adult sports as well, including karate, an adult volleyball league which starts Oct. 13, seasonal cornhole tournaments, and adult basketball 3 vs. 3 tournaments with the next one starting Nov. 5.
“We are also looking to start an adult indoor soccer league before the end of the year. We also have our rapidly growing pickleball group that plays Tuesday and Thursday mornings and evenings,” added Saunders.
There are so many incentives that come with a YMCA membership that can contribute to a child’s development starting from an early age that could carry all the way through their schooling career.
The YMCA also offers personal training services that are tailored to people of all ability levels.
“This year’s 15th anniversary celebration event will be bigger and better than ever as we utilize the indoor and outdoor space available at the YMCA. We want to celebrate with the community that has been so vital to the growth of the Y over the last 15 years. We will be burying a time capsule so future generations can appreciate the history of the Fayette County Family YMCA,” concluded Saunders.
