A 34-year-old Washington C.H. man was sentenced recently to serve 180 days in the Fayette County Jail.

Andre L. Johns was indicted Feb. 19 on a charge of receiving stolen property.

A reporting Fayette County Sheriff’s Office deputy met with a victim Dec. 8, 2015 at a residence on Peddicord Avenue in Washington C.H. on a theft complaint. The victim stated that she had removed her rings to wash her hands and placed the rings on a bed stand in her bedroom. The victim stated she left for work and came back about 20 minutes later to get the rings and could locate only one of the two that was placed on the bed stand.

The victim stated there were three people in the residence, but at the time she left for work Johns was the only person at the home.

In a follow-up investigation of the theft, the victim was shown several pictures of a ring that was turned in to a pawn shop in Chillicothe, Ohio. The victim was able to identify the ring in the pictures as being her ring. The officer also obtained a receipt for the purchase of the ring. The retail value of the ring was $4,399.

On June 6 in Fayette County Common Pleas Court, Johns was also ordered to pay restitution and costs. Johns may be eligible to participate in the jail work program. The prison term for violation of the sentencing order is 12 months in the appropriate correctional institution.
