Local Brianna Mitchell was recently named the USA Track and Field (USATF) “Regional Volunteer of the Year” for the midwest region at the annual meeting in Orlando, Florida.

She was honored for the volunteer work she has done and for her continued advocacy for both the Ohio Association and for the sport of track and field.

Mitchell has been involved with track and field since grade school. She began her love for the sport at a young age when she became involved in the local USATF Club Excel, coached by Tim Walters.

From there, Mitchell was on the track team in junior high and all through high school at Miami Trace where, to date, she still holds the high school pole vault record.

Mitchell continued her love for track and field as a coach. For the last five years, she has coached pole vault at Miami Trace where she is an assistant coach on the track team.

Mitchell went on to become a USATF Master Level Official and is currently an active member of the Ohio Association’s Board as a member at large.

In 2020, the Ohio Association’s webmaster unexpectedly passed away. Mitchell volunteered to take on the role as webmaster. As the association’s webmaster, she has had the responsibility of keeping the website up to date along with maintaining the Ohio Facebook Group.

As a Master Level Official, Mitchell has officiated at many local USATF and NCAA Championship meets; Jr. Olympics, NCAA D3 Championships and the Under 20 Championships that are held yearly.

The purpose of USATF is to encourage, improve and promote the sport of Amateur Track and Field in the State of Ohio. To learn more, visit www.ohio.usatf.org.
