The Fayette County Retired Teachers Association met recently at Grace Methodist Church for lunch and its regular business meeting.

Brad Adams and Dr. Lee Schrader from the Fayette Regional Humane Society presented a program highlighting its services and successes in working with animals in Fayette and contiguous counties. They are conducting a fundraising campaign to build a new modern facility in the county.

It was reported that arrangements are being made for the annual pre-retirement seminar for educators nearing retirement age. This year, the seminar will be held virtually. Information is being distributed to the local school districts. The dates will be Tuesday, Nov. 16 for those within three-five years of retirement and Thursday, Nov. 18 for those within one to two years.

Jim Faust, president of the Highland County retired teachers association, invited us to attend its next meeting, at which three of STRS’ top leadership will be on hand to discuss the current state of affairs in the retirement system. The noon lunch meeting will be held on Nov. 1 at a site 15 minutes west of Hillsboro. Any members interested in attending should contact Karen Bernard.

The memorial committee conducted the service for members who have passed on over the last two years. Those members are Carol Bookman, Curtis Fleisher, Tom Gauldin, Jim Rosendahl, Carl Anders, Jane Throckmorton, Norma Wilson, Marian Robinson, Jim Oughterson, Gordon McCarty, William Radabaugh, Jr., Denzil Leggett, Juanita Hughes, and Lucille Davis.

Their many contributions in the field of education were noted. They will be greatly missed.

The next meeting will be held Thursday, Dec. 2 at Grace Methodist Church with the social hour beginning at 11 a.m. and lunch at 12 p.m. We will be conducting our annual Banana Express visits to the local care centers.
