The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a one-vehicle traffic crash that claimed the life of a Washington Court House man on Thursday morning, Nov. 11.

The crash was reported at 7:12 a.m. on Washington-Waterloo Road near Deer Haven Court in Marion Township in northeast Fayette County. According to Sheriff Vernon Stanforth, a 1994 Honda Civic driven by Ezequiel Lopez, 34, was heading northeast on Washington-Waterloo and lost control around a curve — traveling off the right side of the roadway.

Lopez reportedly over-corrected and the vehicle went off the left side of the roadway before striking a ditch and overturning. Lopez was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, Stanforth said.

Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene by Fayette County Coroner Dr. Lenora Fitton. He was the only person inside the vehicle.

The vehicle sustained heavy damage in the crash and was towed from the scene.

Also responding and assisting at the scene were members of Fayette County EMS and Pic-A-Fay Joint Fire District in New Holland.
