Alumni of Washington Court House City Schools (WCHCS) are invited to return for the Blue Lion annual homecoming football game.

The Blue Lion Marching Band is once again striking up the alumni band to take the field. As the Blue Lion Cheerleaders prepare for the homecoming festivities, they are inviting all of their alumni to join them once again. Washington High School is inviting all former football players of the Blue and White to help build the traditional alumni tunnel during the pregame festivities.

The Blue Lions host the Minford Falcons for their annual homecoming game at Gardner Park on Friday, Sept. 10. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Blue Lion Band Alumni

As in the past, the alumni musicians, dancers, field commanders, and majorettes will perform with the current students at halftime and postgame of the Friday, Sept. 10th home game.

This year, the band will be performing the hit tunes “China Grove” and “Long Train Runnin’” by the Doobie Brothers, as well as the traditional Script Lions. Music can be found on the district website at wchcs.org/alumni.

Prior to kickoff, the marching band and alumni will rehearse at Gardner Park from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Matt Stanley encourages all returning performers to register by sending their name, graduation year, current address and telephone number, as well as indicate their instrument or method of participation, such as dance team, majorette, flag squad, drum major, or field commander, to his email at [email protected]. Registration is due by Wednesday, Sept. 8.

Due to the large number of students in the band, most of the school instruments are being used. The band encourages alumni to attempt to find their own instrument if possible. If unable to do so, Stanley requests to know as soon as possible to assist.

Blue Lion Cheerleading Alumni

Alumni cheerleaders are invited to join the current team for the pregame tunnel on the field as well as on the sidelines during the first half of the game. Those who do not wish to cheer from on the field are encouraged to show their support from the stands in the designated alumni cheer section.

Registration can be sent to Coach Tara Bivens at [email protected] with your name, size and graduation year. Alumni shirts are $15 and the deadline to order is Saturday, Sept. 4.

Coach Bivens will send a link to practice material via YouTube to registered alumni at a later date. There will also be a practice on the field before the game at 5:30 p.m. for those who can make it.

For more information, contact Coach Bivens by email or by calling 740-335-0291 during regular school hours.

Blue Lion Football Alumni

Alumni football members will begin to form the tunnel on either side of the gate outside of the playing field fence near the historic fieldhouse at 6:40 p.m. As the current team makes their way to the field, the alumni will be there to greet them with high fives, words of encouragement, and cheers to help kick off the homecoming game.

In years’ past, Coach Williamson has invited the alumni football players into the fieldhouse for the pregame speeches; however, due to current precautions for COVID-19, this portion of the festivities will not happen in 2021. The team looks forward to welcoming their alumni back into the fieldhouse in years to come.

For more information, contact the Central Office at 740-335-6620, extension 5027 or go to wchcs.org/alumni.
