The Fayette County Family YMCA announced recently that Kenny Upthegrove has been hired as program director.

Upthegrove was born and raised in Washington Court House and is a 2017 graduate of Washington Court House City Schools. He is currently a senior at the University of Cincinnati studying Sports Administration and will graduate with a Bachelors degree in the fall. He is also the assistant boys soccer coach for Washington City Schools.

Upthegrove has been working part time for the YMCA since October of 2020, running youth sports programs and serving as a customer service representative. YMCA CEO Doug Saunders shared that “the YMCA is fortunate to have Kenny join the YMCA family full time and to be able to retain such a great young man in our community. We look forward to the example and mentor he can be to many young people in Fayette County as he helps us strengthen the foundation of our community.”

In his expanded role, Upthegrove will be focusing on providing programs for youth, teens, and families, including expanding and enhancing youth sports offerings. He has already started on plans to bring back adult basketball and volleyball leagues. He is also finalizing plans to renovate the game room for ages 8-years-old and up, utilizing input from surveys of kids and parents that have been done over the last year.

“My goal is to reach people in the community of all ages through new programs we will offer and other avenues; thereby strengthening the community and making it a better place for all,” Upthegrove said.

Beginning Aug. 1, the YMCA will take registrations for fall rookies soccer for ages 3-5 and flag football for grades K-6. Registration forms are available at the YMCA or faycoymca.org/youth-sports. YMCA youth sports are available to anyone in the community and are free with a YMCA family or single parent family membership.

The YMCA is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Membership and program assistance is provided to those with documented inability to pay published fees. For further information on YMCA programs, membership, or employment opportunities go to faycoymca.org or call 740-335-0477.
