A Fayette County man has been arrested and charged in connection with several recent thefts that occurred in the Village of Bloomingburg.

Caleb A. Workman, 29, of 46 Lincoln St. in Bloomingburg, was charged following the execution of a search warrant by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office at his home on Tuesday afternoon stemming from the investigation.

According to Sheriff Vernon Stanforth, several Bloomingburg residents had reported the theft of mowers and other property from outside their homes and garages in recent days.

A break in the case came on Tuesday when one of the victims reported the utilization of social media to inquire about the purchase of a lawn mower to replace one stolen from the resident’s home. After receiving a response to the inquiry, the victim reportedly went to Workman’s residence to check out a mower for sale. The individual identified the stolen mower sitting outside Workman’s home, according to Stanforth.

The victim alerted the sheriff’s office and after further investigation, deputies served the search warrant at Workman’s home, which led to the recovery of the reported stolen mower and several other stolen items, Stanforth said.

Detectives working the case also learned that some stolen items had already been sold via social media, and the deputies are continuing to work toward the recovery of those items. Most of the reported stolen items recovered from Workman’s home have been returned to the rightful owners.

Workman is currently incarcerated in the Fayette County Jail in lieu of bond. He is charged with three counts of theft. Additional charges are likely, Stanforth said.
