MT Athletic Boosters, Modern Woodmen support the Dragons

Miami Trace Athletic Boosters recently supported the Fayette County Dragons with a $1,000 donation. When the boosters heard that unlike Panther athletes, the Dragons could not participate in sports nor hold their annual fundraisers, they contributed BIG to an online Dragon Fans Sponsored Auction.

The funds donated by the MT Athletic Boosters were doubled by a Modern Woodmen Members Matching Funds Grant. So when the Ohio Special Olympics can continue, our Dragon athletes will be ready.

MT Athletic Boosters are made up of caring volunteer parents, community members, and alumni. They strive to help provide MT sports teams with newer equipment to keep them up to date with safety codes and protect our athletes. Boosters also support student athletes by promoting positive parent and community involvement with the Miami Trace athletic program through volunteerism and financial assistance in order to uphold the tradition of excellence demonstrated by our students, coaches, staff and families.

The Athletic Boosters, led by president Debbie Napier, assist all MT organizations, not just athletic teams, by allowing them to work the concessions at sporting events for a generous portion of the proceeds. The Fayette County Special Olympics program offers athletic training and competition to any eligible person age 8 and older. Currently, our program offers teams in basketball, flag football, track and field, cheerleading, and unified softball. Unified sports combine athletes with disabilities, with partners without disabilities on a team.

In addition, our program gives children and adults with disabilities opportunities to develop physical fitness, find their inner courage, experience the happiness of success and participate in sharing skills, friendship and fellowship with other athletes. Please contact Betty Hodges, Fayette County Board of DD Community Resource Director, at 740,335-7453, for more information on ways to volunteer, donate, or join a team.
