The Fayette County Commissioners approved a few motions during their recent meeting, including a proposal to install a generator at the county courthouse.

It was moved by commissioner Jack DeWeese and seconded by commissioner Dan Dean to accept the proposal of CT Electric to install a “200 kilowatt 120/208 Volt 3 Phase Diesel Generator self contained fuel take with 800 Amp 3 Phase 120/208 ATS.”

This update comes from a long line of work done to the courthouse, including a paint job completed recently by Don Kelley Construction. They repaired and painted walls, ceiling and crown molding on the second floor hallway of the county courthouse in Washington C.H. A few years ago, the basement floors and stairwells were redone, and repairs to the top of the courthouse were completed about six years ago. This new generator is one of several the commissioners have sought to place.

“This is a desire on part of the commissioners,” commissioner Tony Anderson said. “We know how weather around here can get, and we trust in (Fayette County EMA Director) Fulton Terry to provide us with good feedback on what to expect storm wise. So we have placed several generators already to make sure that the government buildings can continue on. Severe storms in the area could leave many parts of the county without power, and to make sure we can keep doing what we need to do we have put in these generators.”

Anderson said that currently they have placed one generator at the County Administration Building and at the Fayette County Board of Elections on Main Street. He said they also placed one at the Fayette County EMS building this spring.

The commissioners approved an agreement with CCAO Service Corporation Workers’ Compensation Group Retrospective Rating Plan for the rating period beginning Jan. 1, 2017 with the purpose of the plan being to achieve lower workers’ compensation rates for the group. The result should be the establishment of safer working conditions and environments for each participant.

Finally, the commissioners approved a resolution authorizing the sale of surplus Fayette County vehicles through GovDeals Inc., an internet-based auction system. The vehicles, a 2001 Ford Explorer and a 2007 Dodge Charger, were declared surplus and will be sold.
