Although 105 provisional ballots were added to the final March 15 primary election tally when the Fayette County Board of Elections certified the election results on Thursday, the additional number did not change any of the winners in local races.

A provisional ballot is used to record a vote if a voter’s eligibility is in question and the voter would otherwise not be permitted to vote at his or her polling place. The content of a provisional ballot is no different from a regular ballot, but it is cast “provisionally” until election officials can verify the voter’s eligibility to vote in the particular precinct at that election. “Only 15 provisional ballots we received did not count,” said Beth Ann Snyder, Board of Elections director.

According to the official final results, a total of 6,620 ballots were cast in the March 15 presidential primary out of 15,740 registered voters in Fayette County for a 42.06 percent turnout. To break it down further, there were 1,354 Democratic ballots cast, 5,255 Republican ballots cast, seven Green Party ballots cast, and four non-partisan ballots cast.
