‘Get outside and explore nature’

Nothing to do this summer? Take the “Get outside and Explore Nature Challenge.”

The Fayette Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) is partnering with Carnegie Public Library to offer eight challenges this summer. The district is making YouTube videos to offer background information and resources to complete the challenge. Each Wednesday a new challenge is posted on the SWCD Facebook page, said Brigitte Hisey, natural resource specialist with the district.

“Since all programming has been cancelled, we were looking at ways to stay engaged with the community,” she said. “The district has a YouTube channel, Fayette SWCD, to upload each week’s challenge.”

This week’s challenge is to visit the Shaw Wetland at 2820 Robinson Road and do a scavenger hunt. Those interested can get a scavenger hunt at the library, the Facebook post or by emailing [email protected]. If you start the challenge you will receive a water bottle.

For each week’s challenge that you complete, you will get a cool sticker to put on the bottle, said Hisey.

Prizes can be picked up at the library or by calling 740-313-3212 to make arrangements with Hisey at the Ag Center, 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday.
