A 21-year-old Good Hope woman was killed in a one-vehicle traffic crash Tuesday night in the Village of Bloomingburg.

The accident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on Main Street near the intersection of Midland Avenue, according to Fayette County Sheriff Vernon Stanforth.

A 2004 Ford Focus, driven by Shawna J. Vassar, heading south on Main Street sideswiped several vehicles parked along Main Street. Vassar continued south on Main Street through the intersection of Midland Avenue and drove off the left side of the roadway, according to Stanforth, and crashed into a utility pole and tree.

Vassar, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office. The vehicle sustained heavy damage in the crash and was towed from the scene.

Members of the Bloomingburg-Paint-Marion Township Fire Department, Fayette County EMS, and the Sheriff’s Rescue Unit all responded and assisted at the scene.

Stanforth said the crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.
