Fayette County Family YMCA recently announced its upcoming community open house on Feb. 22 as it opens the new expansion that was completed this month.

With the recent Daddy-Daughter dance attracting 250 participants, and Fayette County Family YMCA volunteers and staff celebrating the burning of the mortgage on the existing facility, attention has turned to celebrating the full opening of the 13,000 square foot expansion with a community open house on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The open house will feature a ribbon cutting in the new fieldhouse at 9:30 a.m. followed by a youth basketball league game. Columbus Clippers mascots Lou Seal and Krash are scheduled to attend from 10 a.m. to noon. Other activities include: tours of the facility from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., free open batting and golf cages from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and a free glucose and blood pressure screening from Fayette County Memorial Hospital from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Additionally, visitors can learn to play Pickleball from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Group X will hold classes and demos, including showing off the new “Movestrong Rig.”

A group of volunteers installed the MoveStrong Nova rig, and 18 staff completed training with a MoveStrong master trainer on Feb. 8. Volunteers and staff then relocated much of the existing and new equipment, allowing for the expanded wellness center to open on Feb. 10. In addition to the rig, new equipment that has already received rave reviews includes a Rogue Ham-Glute Developer and a Matrix Stepmill.

In celebration of the grand opening, the YMCA will also be offering membership packages from Feb. 15 through March 2 that include single purchase for any membership and the ability to waive the joining fee. Additionally, double purchase any monthly membership, waive the joining fee and get a punch card for five sessions in the batting/golf cage or a one-month small group training pass. Finally, with the Grand Slam purchase of any annual membership, waive the joining fee and get a free non-hosted party rental ($100 value).

The new 1,500 square foot multipurpose room has begun to be utilized for group cycling and other fitness programs. A variety of party packages that utilize this space as well as the pool, field house, and batting/golf cage are also available.

With the fieldhouse flooring and striping complete, installation of the batting cage and turf is underway. The fieldhouse includes multi-purpose flooring and four basketball goals and the batting cage with a baseball/softball pitching machine and turf flooring surface. The cage can also be used to hit golf balls.
