On Saturday, Jan. 4, the Fayette County Junior Fair Board attended the annual Ohio Fair Managers Conference in Columbus. This is where the Senior Fair Board books entertainment and finalizes plans for the Fayette County Fair.

This year, the Fayette County Fair is July 20-25, with opening ceremonies occurring on July 19. Along with the Senior Fair Board finalizing plans, the Junior Fair Board starts to develop plans for the Junior Fair aspect of the fair. Members of the Junior Board attend several sessions to develop new ideas about shows and activities to hold throughout the week. There are also sessions that include tips on how to run shows, speak to a crowd, and manage fair week stress.

The bus for the conference left from Miami Trace High School and headed to Columbus early Saturday morning. Once the members got there, they were seated in a large hall where they listened to a general session where the 2020 Ohio Fairs’ Queen was crowned.

This year, Fayette County was represented by 2019 Fayette County Fair Queen Abbigayle Pettit. After that session concluded, both boards enjoyed lunch together then broke off to go to the sessions they decided to attend. The Junior Fair Board attended two sessions and the entertainment fair before they headed home. Members Trevor Minyo and Kahlin Orso also presented in one of the sessions. The two members presented the “Farm Olympics” that were inaugurated last year.

All members enjoyed their trip and are excited for the Fayette County Fair. Members who attended included: Aubrey Schwartz, Trevor Minyo, Kahlin Orso, Taylor Moore, Derek Mitchem, Weston Pettit, Cameron Casto, McKenna Casto, Jenna Goddard, Emily Moser, Emily Taylor, Lorelei King, and Katrina Koski.
