At the Aug. 21 meeting of the Southern State Community college Board of Trustees, Brown County Juvenile Court Judge Danny R. Bubp presided over the swearing in of Jeffrey D. Newman who was appointed by Gov. DeWine for a term through May 11, 2024.
Newman, certified public accountant, is the founder and president of Jeffrey D. Newman, CPA, LLC. Approaching 20 years of serving southern Ohio and northeastern Kentucky, the firm provides traditional CPA services, tax planning and preparation, payroll processing and financial statements while offering innovative business consulting and web-based remote accounting.
Newman earned a bachelor of business administration – finance from Morehead State University, Morehead, Ky. His prior experience includes positions with the Ohio Auditor of State and financial officer for Buffalo Trace Area Development District, administering economic development projects in northeastern Kentucky. He enjoys leading music at Bible Baptist Church, community events, recreational running and spending time with family. Jeff and his wife Lisa live in West Union, Ohio.
The remaining trustee positions are filled by Brian De Bruin (chair) of Fayette County, Doug Boedeker of Fayette County, Tracy O’Hara of Brown County, Brian Prickett (vice chair) of Clinton County, Kyle Rudduck of Clinton County, Rachel Cummings of Adams County, Lynn Stevens of Highland County and Kristy Wilkin of Highland County.
Chosen by Ohio’s governors, the nine trustees who comprise the SSCC Board of Trustees provide direction and leadership, which allows the college to focus on fulfilling the mission of providing accessible, affordable and high-quality education.
The Southern State Community College Board of Trustees holds the responsibility to “establishing policy; selecting, hiring and evaluating the president; reviewing and acting on financial matters; and establishing schedules of institution-wide fees and tuition.”
